Idealistic Ethereum Community-Built zkEVM Scroll Launching in Weeks

[ad_1]

After two years of development, a group of Ethereum idealists are on the verge of launching Scroll, their zero-knowledge EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine). Scroll has been developed with Ethereum’s values at its core, staying true to the philosophy and principles that Ethereum upholds. Unlike other zero-knowledge EVMs currently available, Scroll is driven by an idealistic vision to scale Ethereum while maintaining its decentralization principles.

Scroll co-founder Ye Zhang states that the project is more than just solving computational problems, emphasizing that it is a labor of love and community-driven initiative. Their goal is to grow the Scroll community organically, avoiding aggressive marketing tactics.

“We can grow this community very organically, and then grow our network effect, not in a very silly way, not in a very marketing-driven aggressive way.”

The launch of the new zkEVM Scroll is imminent, as it has already undergone extensive testing and code audits. Zhang mentions that Scroll will be launched after final testing, once major projects like Uniswap and Aave are ready to deploy on Scroll.

Ye Zhang considers ZK-rollups to be the “holy grail” of layer-2 scaling solutions due to their cost-effectiveness and enhanced security.

However, Scroll is entering a crowded ecosystem with existing zkEVM solutions from Polygon, Immutable, StarkWare, zkSync Era, and ConsenSys’ Linea, which launched in August. Zhang argues that some of these systems have “unproven” components in their circuits, while Scroll offers a “complete proof” of all Ethereum opcodes and transaction components.

Scroll is a layer-2 scaling project that has been in development for two years. It utilizes zero-knowledge proofs to compress data off-chain, resulting in higher throughput by submitting only proofs on-chain.

The EVM component ensures full native compatibility with existing Ethereum software and applications. While there will be some centralization in the initial setup, such as sequencers, Zhang assures that the roadmap includes further decentralization over time.
